Do Blondes Have More Fun, and Is This Question Still Relevant?
Could it be that the color of your hair determines your dating success?
It was Clairol advertising salon color in the 1950’s and 1960’s who first coined the phrase ‘Is it true… blondes have more fun? ‘ as a follow up to their famous ‘Only her hairdresser knows’ campaign. Up until this point, only those women considered ‘fast’ succumbed to this terrible deed of coloring their hair!
Do blondes have more fun?
It seems not only do blondes have more fun, they also feel they are more fun. As a result, they go out more. Oftentimes, as much as three nights a week versus two for their dark-haired sisters. It seems these girls with the golden hair feel “more confident and youthful”, so they like to take this attitude outside.
‘Do Gentlemen Really Prefer Blondes?‘
The surprising answer is “Yes!” Blond hair is bright and signals youth. The good news is that the men who prefer blonds, according to a study that tracked an Internet dating service, are only a small, if significant, percentage.
The bottom line is everyone is different but if you ask around, most women will tell you they’ve been treated differently when changing the color of their hair— and according to research, blondes do get more attention.
This marketing strategy was a differentiator for Clairol.
It had a tremendous impact on Clairol’s sales. By 1997, Clairol controlled 46.2 percent of the hair dye market compared with 33.3 percent for L’Oréal, its closest competitor, according to Information Resources, a market research firm.
But Clairol is a huge company. How can you use “Buying Conversion Mechanisms” to move the needle for your product or service?
