First, let’s briefly discuss the benefits of dropshipping:
1. Save money, time and effort
You are not buying products until you get paid, and you are not wasting
time shipping, packing, and standing in line at the post office. Nor do
you spend as much time on your business receiving and shipping
inventory.
2. Save space!
You are not loading up your garage, or apartment, (or Amazon’s warehouse) with products that are slow
sellers, or not selling at all.
3. Laptop lifestyle
This is a true laptop lifestyle business because you can run the business anywhere
and anytime as long as they have an Internet connection.
4. Leverage
You can multiply your money, time and effort. This is powerful leverage.
5. Low starting cost
You can start selling without a lot of early investment because you don’t
have to buy wholesale or cover the cost of manufacturing your products.
How to Handle Dropshipping Returns
Establish and clearly state your return policy. Some sellers state that there is a
20% restocking fee on all returns. This gives them a chance to recoup
lost revenue. But others feel that it’s always a better idea to please
the customer but you need to decide and state your preference upfront in
the guidelines (disclaimer).
1. A customer requests a return.
2. Once you have analyzed the reason for the return, you contact your
supplier and ask for a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number and
a replacement or refund (as per your customer’s wish).
3. Next, you send the apology email to the customer with the RMA number and the
return address. They will ship the package to either you or the supplier.
Remind the buyer to purchase a tracking number if they
are the one paying for the return shipping. Also, if it’s your first
time handling returns, I would suggest you get involved directly and get
the product shipped to you.
Verify when they have received the product and initiated a replacement or your refund.
