A single operated newsletter may be the easiest business ventures to set up:
1) Create an account
2) Import your email list (Paidletter shows you how to grow one)
3) Connect to a payment system (we prefer Stripe) to receive payments.
Readers subscribe monthly or annually, and most publications offer a discount for the annual subscription.
In the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, New York Magazine and others, Margot’s journalistic work investigates how sociopolitical movements affect people’s day-to-day choices. Those themes also appear in her newsletter, Lorem Ipsum, which is considerably shorter and less straight-faced. Brands like Facebook, Quartz, and Adobe also commission Margot’s voice.
Margot’s writing is informed by a curiosity about the ways big social movements shape our day-to-day behavior. That interest began to crystalize while she was pursuing her BA in religion (which was effectively a sociology degree) at Wesleyan University, and took root during a semester studying Islam and colonization in Morocco.
For fun, she does comedy (sometimes standup, sometimes improv (trained at UCB, RIP)), rides her bike around the city, and pokes around every possible corner of the Park Slope Food Coop. She also appreciates math-like punctuation.
