The Great Resignation – Are Paid Newsletter the Secret to New DIY Income?
Is the current business trend of employees quitting a new doorway to find happiness and financial freedom?
I believe that this year (2022) will set a record in single operated newsletter creation.
The number one reason is because of The Great Resignation!
The Great Resignation (as economists have coined the employee exodus) reflects a deep dissatisfaction with previous employment situations. The ongoing global pandemic has enabled workers to rethink their careers, work/life balance, long-term goals, and working conditions.
According to Harvard:
Employees between 30 and 45 years old have had the greatest increase in resignation rates, with an average increase of more than 20% between 2020 and 2021…
There are a few factors that can help to explain why the increase in resignations has been largely driven by these mid-level employees. First, it’s possible that the shift to remote work has led employers to feel that hiring people with little experience would be riskier than usual, since new employees won’t have the benefit of in-person training and guidance. This would create greater demand for mid-career employees, thus giving them greater leverage in securing new positions.
It’s also possible that many of these mid-level employees may have delayed transitioning out of their roles due to the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, meaning that the boost we’ve seen over the last several months could be the result of more than a year’s worth of pent-up resignations.
Opportunity Hidden in Adversity
There is an old saying that “every cloud has a silver lining”. Without going into the depressing stats of the recent pandemics suffice it to say it appears to be true.
Employees who were forced to work from home, spend more time with family, and create their own schedule, experienced epiphanies!
This was especially true if the job was just a money source (without benefits, bonuses, or other perks).
The ability to ‘control your day’ is a lifestyle perk that entrepreneurs have always known. And, thanks to the pandemic, employees around the world were able to experience it.
More people are becoming aware of the benefits of being a one-person deep business owner with a single operated newsletter:
1 – You can create a subscription base without becoming a social media influencer.
2 – You can control the platform something you can not do with YouTube, Facebook, and yes, even Instagram. This eliminates the possibility of getting knocked off the big platforms.
3 – You can get paid directly for the content provided to your readers.
